«Ich habe irgendwann verstanden, dass die ′Normalen′ Angst vor mir haben und dass es an mir liegt, auf sie zuzugehen.» Das sagt Massimo Schilling, 33 Jahre alt. Er humpelt an seinen Krücken. Seine Beine machen beim Gehen schlangenförmige Bewegungen. Bei seiner Geburt litt er unter Sauerstoffmangel. Die Eltern liessen ihn als Kleinkind im Stich, sie wollten «das behinderte Monster» nicht bei sich haben. Massimo ist einer von fünf Behinderten, die bei den Büchels im «Steinengässli» wohnen. Die acht Mitglieder der Grossfamilie sind grundverschieden. Aber sie haben die Gemeinsamkeit, dass sie ein Leben führen können fern der strikten Strukturen, in denen sich behinderte Menschen normalerweise zu bewegen haben. Da ist zum Beispiel Martin. Er galt früher als unheilbar aggressiv und bösartig und wurde von Heim zu Heim gereicht. Oder Roland: Meist ist er bedenkenlos wie ein Kind, und wenn er einmal zu reden beginnt, ist er kaum zu stoppen. Alles, was er will, ist, respektiert zu werden - vor allem von seinen Eltern. Franco ist gehörlos und autistisch. Er schiesst Fotos, die er nach einem nicht nachvollziehbaren System einordnet. Hansi leidet an cerebralen Bewegungsstörungen. Irene und Heinz Büchel schliesslich sind die Pflegeeltern, Rahel ihre Tochter. Seit 17 Jahren lebt die heiltherapeutische Grossfamilie nun schon im Toggenburg zusammen. Früher verdiente man sich das Geld mit der Landwirtschaft, heute mit der Musik. Zusammen zu musizieren sei von Anfang an zentral gewesen, meint Heinz Büchel. Das gemeinsame Hobby funktioniere als eine Art Therapie: Keiner der fünf behinderten «Jungs» sei mehr ein «untragbarer» Fall, sei selbstzerstörerisch oder aggressiv. Das Musizieren ist zudem auch Mittel geworden, nach aussen zu treten. Mit ihrem Musiktheater «Die Regierung» verzeichnet die Gruppe mittlerweile im In- und Ausland beachtliche Erfolge. Der 30jährige Christian Davi hat die Bewohner des «Steinengässli» mit der Kamera begleitet. Entstanden ist ein äusserst feinfühliges Gruppenporträt: Die eingefangenen Situationen sind oft komisch, manchmal traurig, aber immer voller Lebenslust und einer seltsam ansteckenden Energie. Ganz im Gegensatz zu anderen Filmen über Behinderte wird hier nicht mit wohlwollendem Kommentar versucht, Mitleid zu erheischen. Vielmehr kommen die Behinderten selbst zu Wort, als Menschen mit einer eigenen Philosophie - und man hört fasziniert zu.
